Once, someone asked me why I liked Cosplay...They asked me why I dressed up and made myself look like a total idiot. They asked me why I pretended to be a character that exists only on paper...
I like cosplay because it's who I am.
It's fun to take a step out of reality, even if it's only for a few days, or even a few hours. It's fun to go to conventions and meet people who share your interests. People who don't scowl at you for walking around and being different.
In the modern world, those who stand out are frowned upon. The majority is everything, the minority is nothing.
It makes a person very happy when they become a part of the majority, but in their own way. There are more anime and cosplay fans out there then people think.
Some are simply insecure....but when they go to conventions and cosplay, they see that they're not alone in what they love. They see that they have friends, and that everyone around them is a minority.
But together, they form their own majority.
Some people like to wear make up, fancy clothes, and walk about looking like everyone else...some people like to fall into the waves.
But...some people like to dress up as nonexistent characters. Some people like to row the boat against the flow of the tide.
I am one of these people, and if you are but are too afraid to show it, don't be.
You have friends.
Within our small group of people, there are no enemies. Just friends.
If you are a person who has accepted this different side of you, I commend you. It takes a brave person to be who they are and not what the world expects them to be.
Do what you want in life. You only get one chance to live, so make the most of it. If you want to go to conventions, go. If you want to go to the mall in full costume, wig and all, do so.
Don't care what other people think! Their opinions are their opinions! All that should matter is what YOU think.
Don't try and change yourself just to be like someone else! if you have a "friend" who wants you to be something completely different then what you are, then they are not your friend.
Be with people who accept you.
Accept yourself and live as you see fit.
This is why I love cosplay.
This is why I love life.
This is why I live according to my own rules, and no one else's.
